The Documentary about John Carpenter’s Movie Masterpiece

We did it, chat! We backed The Thing Expanded!

It says GEEK WOLFPACK right there! This is so exciting!

I’m in the camp that the practical effects, tense story, and terrific acting make The Thing one of the greatest horror movies of all time. I am not alone. Here we are, decades removed from the film’s theatrical release, and there are still new documentaries being launched about it. Freshly released in 2026 is the long-awaited documentary, The Thing Expanded.

This is the latest in a long string of documentaries from CreatorVC, makers of the fantastic In Search of Darkness series, Aliens Extended, and a ton of others. The Thing Expanded features interviews with director John Carpenter, cast members including Kurt Russell and Keith David, editor Samuel Way, and fans from all over the industry including director Guillermo del Toro, writer/director Frank Daramont, actor/director Eli Roth, and TV host/actor Stephen Colbert.

Carpenter speaks about the many projects that influenced The Thing. There are segments on the many love letters dedicated to the film, including discussions of the 2011 prequel, the video game sequel, tons of merchandise and cosplay, the role playing game, and the original John W. Campbell novella “Who Goes There?”

This documentary will release to the public soon. Meanwhile, we’ll be watching it on repeat, enjoying the nostalgia for one of the best horror films of all time. Check out CreatorVC in the meantime.
