A Trip Down Memory Lane for the Cast & Crew of Schitt’s Creek
I freely admit I was very late to the game when it came to becoming a fan of the incredible TV series, Schitt’s Creek. I remember watching it win a pile of awards, but I was only familiar with stars Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy from earlier movies. When I finally started watching, it didn’t take long for me to fall in love with the show.
“Best Wishes & Warmest Regards” is authored by Eugene Levy and his son Dan, who co-created the show. It is a recap of creating the show all the way though the finale. There are stops at each episode with behind-the-scenes interviews. The very talented cast is prominent, but so are many of the crew members.
So many of these great insights are provided by the folks off camera. Hair stylist Ana Sorys, costumer Debra Hanson and makeup artist Lucky Bromhead could host their own cosplay competition reality show. Their stories of making some of the signature looks for O’Hara’s Moira Rose are epic.
The Roses (Dan, Eugene, Catherine and Annie Murphy) provide a ton of insight into the emotions of shooting scenes and the journeys that their characters have experienced. They’re joined by the rest of the regular cast, including Emily Hampshire, Chris Elliot, Sarah Levy, Dustin Millingan, Noah Reid, Karen Robinson, Jennifer Robertson, Rizwan Manji, and John Hemphill.
The book is brilliantly peppered with artwork submitted by fans. It includes other compilations like all of Moira’s on-screen wigs, a global catalog of Alexis’ travels, the paper plate where Murphy wrote the lyrics for “A little bit Alexis”, David’s many sweaters, and synopses of every episode.
One of the other topics is the importance of the soundtrack to the series. Not just which songs were chosen, but the arrangements. This includes the performances by the Jazzagals, Moira and David doing “The Number” and the multiple uses of Tina Turner’s iconic “Simply the Best.” The story about David’s lip sync episode is particularly hilarious.
Fans of Schitt’s Creek, and there are many, will appreciate riding along with the Levys as they revisit the most impactful six seasons of their lives. It’s a great read that will have many fans stirring up their emotions from the show’s historic run.
