Show Review: Zombie Burlesque

A witty, campy laugh fest that mixes music, comedy and a variety of acts to keep the belly laughs coming

Zombie Burlesque is a variety show running at the V Theater in Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. The premise is that the show takes place in the 50’s where radiation testing has created the undead. Over time, the humans and zombies have come to an agreement where the zombies are provided food in the form of prisoners. In exchange, they don’t eat innocent people and as a bonus, humans get access to the Z Theater – the swankiest zombie nightclub of all.

The show features a talented cast of singers and dancers, along with performers who specialize in a variety of skills. The show’s master of ceremonies is Zenoch, who belts out song after song with enormous gusto. He is backed up by a full band, including a three-piece horn section that is also incorporated into the show’s story.

Zombies apparently love sex. The show is always about sex and love. Throughout the course of the show, a zombie named Mikey is learning the ropes about being undead. He becomes more and more openly out and proud as the show continues, beginning with the “Eating a Penis Doesn’t Make You Gay” musical number and progressing into some full on drag.

The musical numbers range from chorus line style to even ballet, with funny lyrics and even better prop comedy. Between the songs, Zenoch hosts various acts that sometimes include “volunteers” from the crowd. His quick wit keeps the show moving quick and the laughs coming non-stop.

(We were in the front row and got called out plenty. One member of our group may have a new name for his penis.)

Zombie Burlesque is hilarious and very, very inappropriate. The cast includes some incredible voices and the variety of acts is only overshadowed by the sheer number of laughs. Be ready to laugh so much that your face hurts, but also be prepared to be recruited as part of the show. It’s all on the table.
